Health Imperatives’ project aims to expand and strengthen WIC for families with low incomes in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.

Two WIC staff will be hired to live on the island, ensuring better access to local WIC experts and service delivery. Health Imperatives will also work closely with local healthcare and community partners to provide WIC services in more locations and at multiple points of contact to reduce barriers to access.

The use of WIC ambassadors will develop strong relationships with the community while the ambassadors themselves will be trained local, multilingual, current and former WIC clients to help their neighbors navigate shopping for WIC foods, creating an innovative and empowering pipeline of employment while expanding WIC access and awareness.

Health Imperatives’ project will produce many lessons and create a model that can be applied to other close-knit, geographically isolated communities.
