Open Door Family Medical Center’s project aims to establish a new web-based WIC referral application with data from The Hudson Center, the largest provider of Medicaid for Open Door’s target population, and to create a secure database system that collects and validates community-level data on adjunctively eligible, prospective participants who are enrolled in Medicaid, but not WIC.

This newly developed application and streamlined enrollment workflow informed by WIC participants will help Open Door strategically outreach to Medicaid participants and increase WIC awareness, enrollment, and retention.

In New York, Medicaid and WIC are administered separately. This proposed system has never been done and will innovatively merge data into one source to more effectively conduct outreach and focus on an innovative population: Medicaid participants.

For other states that also separate Medicaid and WIC, lessons learned from establishing this system will be useful and transferable.
