The Opportunity Alliance’s project aims to increase prenatal WIC enrollment, increase monthly benefit redemption, decrease missed WIC appointments, and improve retention of eligible children among immigrant WIC participants in Portland within Cumberland County, Maine.

The Opportunity Alliance will collocate multilingual WIC counselors, recruited by an immigrants rights nonprofit, within the Maine Medical Center OBGYN and Pediatric clinics, create a data- sharing agreement between the WIC agency and Maine Medical Center to share referral data and anthropometric data, and create community-informed and culturally competent WIC materials, including modifications to the WIC Shopper App.

The growing refugee population in Maine is an innovative priority population, and lessons learned from this project will reap findings applicable to other WIC agencies and communities with similar populations.
